Overview
ACCE thesis
SBI Life Insurance writes individual and group life insurance, retirement and savings products, and annuities through its bancassurance tie-up with State Bank of India, alongside a growing agency and digital channel. The franchise's edge is distribution: SBI's branch network gives it access to a very large base of retail savers in India's underpenetrated life insurance market, which is hard for a new entrant to replicate. Revenue growth of 18.8% is running well ahead of what a mature insurer would normally post, driven by rising premium volumes and a shift toward higher-value protection and retirement products. The valuation is the real question: at 63x trailing earnings and 47.6x forward, the stock prices in sustained growth, and ROE of 13.7% is modest for a business at that multiple, so the case rests on margin expansion and persistence of volume growth. Worth a deeper look if you believe India's protection penetration story and the bancassurance channel can keep compounding faster than the multiple already assumes.
