Overview
ACCE thesis
Travel + Leisure Co. (TNL) earns most of its revenue from timeshare ownership and vacation club memberships under the Wyndham Destinations and Club Wyndham brands, plus a smaller exchange and rental business. The moat is the scale of its owner base and its exchange network, which lock in recurring dues and make fresh sales cheaper to finance. Revenue growth of 4.4% is modest, but a 50.6% gross margin and 19.8% operating margin show the model converts well, and the stock trades at 7.6x forward earnings against 17.2x trailing, which implies the market expects a sharp earnings step-up that needs checking. The sharp gap between trailing and forward multiples is the question to test first: is it driven by a cyclical trough in fee income or by an improvement in financing costs and consumer credit? With a $4.0B market cap and no index membership, the name is under-followed enough that a deeper look could be worthwhile.
