Overview
ACCE thesis
Titan makes jewellery under the Tanishq brand, along with watches (Titan, Fastrack, Sonata-style mass lines and premium Titan watches), eyewear through Titan Eye+, and Taneira-branded fragrances. Its moat is a dominant organised position in Indian gold and diamond jewellery, built on hallmarked purity, buy-back and exchange schemes, and a large company-owned store estate that competes with fragmented local jewellers. Growth is coming from store expansion and the shift of unorganised jewellery demand toward branded players, with revenue up 29.3% on the latest data. At a trailing P/E of 67 and a forward P/E of 48.7, the market is already pricing in a sustained earnings ramp, and an operating margin of 12.3% against a gross margin of 20.5% means that ramp rests on operating leverage and mix holding up. The question for a deeper look is whether that margin expansion and the forward earnings path are durable enough to justify the multiple.
