Overview
ACCE thesis
Christian Dior SE owns the Dior fashion house, which sells leather goods, ready-to-wear, shoes, fragrance and cosmetics, and it is the largest contributor to LVMH's Fashion & Leather Goods division. The moat is the brand itself: a 66.4% gross margin and a 22.6% operating margin are what pricing power in handbags and perfume looks like, and both hold up better than most consumer names. The problem is the top line, with revenue down 2.9% and the business working through a soft patch in Asian and aspirational demand. The stock trades at 16.8x trailing earnings with a 17.1% ROE, so the question for a PM is whether the current volume weakness is cyclical or a sign that the brand is losing heat, and that needs a look at leather goods unit trends and Asian client spending before any view on the name.
