Overview
ACCE thesis
ElringKlinger makes engine and battery-system components for automakers, including cylinder-head gaskets, heat shields, and battery housings and modules for electric vehicles. The structural case rests on its installed base in combustion and hybrid powertrains, which still carries much of its revenue, and on the battery and fuel-cell work it is building on top of that. Revenue grew 17.3% over the last year, but a 6.0% operating margin and 3.2% ROE show that growth has not yet reached the bottom line, so the case depends on whether margins recover as new programs ramp. At 5.3x forward earnings against 13.6x trailing, the market is pricing a sharp earnings rebound that the company has not yet shown. That gap is the reason to look harder at order intake, EV program launches and margin guidance before deciding whether the discount is earned.
