Overview
ACCE thesis
Veralto makes water quality instruments and consumables, including the Hach and Trojan UV disinfection systems that labs and municipal utilities rely on to test and treat water, and its recurring consumables and service revenue gives it a sticky installed base. The structural tailwind is regulatory: tightening standards for drinking water, wastewater and industrial discharge keep demand for testing and treatment equipment steady regardless of the capex cycle. The near-term driver is the replacement and refill cycle across that installed base, which tends to show up in consumables and service before it shows up in new instrument orders. At a 60.2% gross margin and 21.4% operating margin, with 7.5% revenue growth and a 34.3% return on equity, the business is clearly high quality, and the stock trades at 20.5 times forward earnings against 24.7 times trailing. That is not cheap for a mid-single-digit grower, so the question for a deeper look is whether the margin profile holds through a slower municipal spending cycle.
