Overview
ACCE thesis
TFS Financial is the holding company for Third Federal Savings and Loan in Cleveland, a mutual-to-stock thrift that takes retail deposits and writes mostly one-to-four family residential mortgages, with a large share of its book in fixed-rate loans. The franchise sits on a deep, low-cost deposit base in northeast Ohio and a long record of conservative underwriting, which is why the stock trades as a sticky, rate-sensitive lender rather than a growth bank. Revenue grew 15.2% over the trailing period, but a 5.3% return on equity and a forward P/E of 76.9 against a trailing 45.4 leave the market paying heavily for earnings that have yet to show up at the bottom line. The useful question for a deeper look is whether net interest margin is widening as the loan book reprices, since that is the only lever that moves a return on equity this low toward something that justifies the multiple. The name carries no index membership, which limits passive demand and makes the float and liquidity worth checking before any position is sized.
