Overview
ACCE thesis
AB SKF makes rolling-element bearings, seals and lubrication systems, sold largely into automotive, heavy industry and wind power through its SKF and Vernet brands. Its moat rests on scale in precision bearings and an installed base of condition-monitoring and aftermarket service that keeps customers switching-cost locked. Growth has stalled, with revenue up only 0.1%, so the case depends on margin and cash conversion rather than volume. At a 28.6% gross margin and 9.6% operating margin, the business is earning less per unit of sales than its pricing power would suggest, and the 8.3% ROE leaves little room for error at a 20.1 trailing P/E. The question for the deeper look is whether pricing and mix actions can restore operating margin toward its historical level while volumes recover, and that is something the next two reporting cycles should show.
