Overview
ACCE thesis
Marico makes Parachute coconut oil, Saffola edible oils and Parachute Advansed hair oils, plus Set Wet hair styling and a growing set of skin care brands sold mainly through Indian general trade. Its moat is distribution depth and brand recall in hair care and edible oils, which lets it hold a 43.9% gross margin and a 19.3% operating margin despite input-cost swings in copra and palm-linked oils. Revenue growth of 21.4% is strong for a household staples name, and management's push into premium and value-added hair and skin products is the main reason the mix should keep improving. At 39.8 times forward earnings against 53.2 times trailing, the market is already pricing in a sharp earnings rebound, so the case rests on whether margins hold while volumes keep growing. This is worth a deeper look to check whether the 21.4% growth is durable volume or mostly pricing and acquired brands.
