Overview
ACCE thesis
Befesa recovers zinc and steel-dust residues from electric arc furnaces and treats salt slags from aluminium recycling, turning hazardous waste from steel and aluminium producers into recyclable metal and reusable material. The moat is the regulated, long-dated nature of these contracts and the scarcity of licensed treatment capacity, which keeps the business sticky with mills that cannot easily send residues elsewhere. Growth is modest at 3.8% revenue growth, so the case rests on the company's ability to keep converting that volume into margin. At 14.3% operating margin and a 45.9% gross margin, with the stock on 11.4x forward earnings against 15.0x trailing, the market is pricing in a meaningful earnings step-up that a portfolio manager should test against the company's own guidance and the zinc price assumptions behind it. The 11% return on equity and the absence of index membership suggest it is a small, under-followed name, which is where a deeper look is most likely to find mispricing.
