Overview
ACCE thesis
Kikkoman makes soy sauce, mirin, and other fermented seasonings, and it is the largest global producer of soy sauce, sold through its own brand across Japan, the US, and Europe. The moat is brewing know-how and a brand that sits in nearly every restaurant kitchen and home pantry, which gives it pricing power that most packaged food companies lack. Reported revenue growth of 15.0% is strong for a defensive name, and the forward P/E of 28.2 is above the trailing 26.1, so the market is paying up for continued expansion rather than pricing a slowdown. The stock is worth a deeper look to test whether the 12.2% operating margin can keep widening on that revenue growth, or whether the premium already assumes more than the business can deliver.
