Overview
ACCE thesis
USANA is a direct-selling nutritional supplement maker whose core products are its Celavive skincare line and nutritional supplements sold through a network of independent Associates, and it is shrinking: revenue fell 5.3% in the period covered, with ROE at -5.1% and an operating margin of only 4.1% against a 77.4% gross margin. The gross margin is the one structural feature worth noting, since it reflects the premium pricing a direct-selling model can sustain, but almost all of that spread is consumed by the commission and distribution costs that define the business. The stock screens cheap on a forward P/E of 7.9, yet the trailing P/E is not meaningful because earnings are not currently positive, so the multiple depends on a recovery in the top line that the current numbers do not yet show. With a market cap of about $284M and no index membership, the name sits well outside the coverage most portfolio managers track, which is itself a reason to check whether the forward estimates are credible before spending time on it. The score of 37/100 says the balance sheet and momentum do not yet support a deeper look, and that a clearer turn in revenue would need to come first.
