Overview
ACCE thesis
Tata Power runs one of India's largest integrated power businesses, spanning utility-scale and rooftop solar, wind, hydro and thermal generation, transmission and distribution in Mumbai and other licence areas, and a growing electric vehicle charging network. Its moat rests on owning regulated distribution and transmission assets that earn predictable returns, which gives the renewables build-out a stable cash base. The main near-term driver is the capacity addition programme in clean generation, paired with India's broader push to decarbonise its grid. At 29.3 times trailing earnings and 21.3 times forward, the market is already pricing in a meaningful earnings step-up, while revenue growth of 5.6% and a 14.5% operating margin show the top line is still growing more slowly than the valuation implies. The case for a deeper look is whether that margin expands as new renewable capacity comes online.
