Overview
ACCE thesis
Quantum Corporation sells data storage hardware and software, including tape libraries, StorNext file management software and a scale-out object storage platform used for video and archival workloads. The structural argument is that cold and archive data keeps growing faster than the budgets that store it, and tape remains the cheapest way to hold it, which gives a niche vendor with installed customers in media and entertainment and government a durable base. Revenue growth of 25.7% and a 37.8% gross margin show that the mix is moving toward higher-value systems and software, though the 6.3% operating margin shows how little of that gross profit reaches the bottom line. At an 851M market cap and a forward P/E of 1.9, the market is pricing in either a sharp earnings recovery or a skeptical view of how much of the revenue growth is durable, and the deeper look should start with which of those the order book supports. Trailing earnings are negative, so the valuation rests entirely on forward estimates, which is where the diligence needs to focus.
