Overview
ACCE thesis
Edgewell makes Banana Boat sunscreen, Hawaiian Tropic, Wet Ones wipes, Schick razors and blades, and Carefree liners, which gives it a portfolio of everyday personal care brands sold through mass retail and drugstores. Its advantage is the scale of those brands on shelf, and the sunscreen franchise is the piece most investors care about because it carries seasonal pricing power in a category with few well-funded challengers. Revenue growth is only 1.7%, so the thesis rests on margin recovery and cost programs rather than volume, and any catalyst would have to come from gross margin, which at 41.0% sits at a level that leaves room to improve if input costs ease. The stock trades at a forward P/E of 13.2, a modest multiple for a defensive household brand owner, but the 8.8% operating margin and negative ROE (-1.3%) mean the earnings base has been thin and the balance sheet is carrying weight. Edgewell is not in any index, which limits passive demand, so a deeper look should focus on whether operating margin can move back toward its historical range before the multiple is worth paying up for.
