Overview
ACCE thesis
Envipco makes reverse vending machines that collect and count used beverage containers, selling the units to retailers and beverage distributors in deposit-return markets such as the US states and Canadian provinces. It sits in a niche where the structural tailwind is regulatory: more jurisdictions are mandating deposit systems, which creates recurring demand for collection hardware and the handling services around it. Revenue is growing 13.3% a year, but operating margin is -14.4% and ROE is -18.9%, so the business is not yet earning its keep and the investment case rests on operating leverage materialising as volume scales. At a forward P/E of 5.6 the market is pricing in either a sharp earnings recovery or doubt about the sustainability of that recovery, and a deeper look should start with gross margin trends (31.5% today) and whether the installed base is growing faster than the losses.
