Overview
ACCE thesis
BSE Limited runs India's oldest stock exchange, and its revenue comes from trading and clearing fees on equity derivatives, cash equities, and currency and commodity segments, alongside index licensing and listing services. The moat is a regulated exchange licence combined with a network effect: liquidity attracts traders, and traders keep the platform the default venue for options contracts across India's retail-heavy market. Revenue grew 64.0% over the reported period, and an operating margin of 80.1% on a 99.6% gross margin shows how little each incremental trade costs to process. The stock trades at 47.5 times trailing earnings and 36.9 times forward earnings, so the multiple already assumes that growth in exchange volumes persists, which makes the trajectory of derivatives turnover the variable to test. Index membership is absent, so the name sits outside the passive flows that often support large Indian financials, and that gap is worth understanding before sizing any position.
