Overview
ACCE thesis
BGC Group runs electronic brokerage and voice broking across rates, FX, credit, equity derivatives and energy, with its eSpeed and BGC Trader platforms sitting alongside a large voice desk that still generates much of the revenue. Its moat is the combination of deep counterparty relationships and an electronic platform that wholesale dealers cannot easily replicate, and the 91.7% gross margin reflects how little incremental cost a brokered trade carries. Revenue grew 8.3%, and the gap between a trailing P/E of 29.0 and a forward P/E of 5.9 is the number to pressure-test first: it implies a sharp earnings step-up that depends on operating leverage and on whether volumes hold in the next few quarters. At a 9.0% operating margin and 15.9% ROE, the earnings base is thin relative to its gross profit, so the case rests on margin expansion rather than on what the business already earns. The stock is worth a deeper look if the forward estimates are credible and the margin trajectory can be checked against the last few reported quarters.
