Overview
ACCE thesis
Resonac makes semiconductor materials, including the copper-clad laminates, interlayer dielectrics and packaging substrates that go into advanced chips, alongside graphite electrodes and specialty chemicals sold into autos and electronics. The case rests on its position in the AI and high-performance computing supply chain, where its advanced packaging materials are harder to substitute than commodity chemicals and sit in a segment with structural demand growth. Revenue grew 15.0% and the operating margin is 13.9%, so the business is growing while earning a reasonable return on sales, though the 8.1% ROE says the balance sheet is carrying a lot of equity. At 50x trailing earnings and 52x forward, the stock prices in a sustained rerating of the semiconductor mix, so the question for a deeper look is whether the margin trajectory in packaging supports that multiple or whether the cyclical graphite and chemicals businesses keep earnings volatile.
