Correction, 18 September 2026: an earlier version of this post described March 11 as the end of the quarter. It is the date the results were reported.

What changed

CPB (The Campbell's Company) reported results on March 11, 2026, and the headline numbers were soft across the board.

EPS came in at $0.51, down from $0.74 in the same period a year earlier. That is a year-over-year decline of 31.1%. Revenue fell 4.5% compared to the same quarter last year. Both metrics moved in the wrong direction at the same time, which is worth paying attention to.

The stock trades at $21.56 as of June 5, 2026, giving the company a market cap of $6.46B. The trailing P/E sits at 11.8, and the forward P/E comes in lower at 9.7, suggesting the market expects earnings to recover somewhat from the current depressed level. The analyst consensus target is $22.06, a narrow gap above the current price.

One number that stands out is the dividend yield at 7.2%. At a stock price of $21.56, that yield is high by most standards in the Consumer Defensive sector. A high yield relative to price can reflect either a generous payout policy or a stock that has fallen far enough to push the yield up mechanically. Given the earnings decline, it is worth watching whether the payout remains sustainable at current levels.

CPB carries an ACCE score of 42 out of 100, which places it in the lower half of our scoring range.

What it means

Two consecutive negative trends — earnings down 31.1% and revenue down 4.5% — point to real pressure on the business, not just a one-line accounting item. The revenue decline tells us the top line shrank, and the steeper drop in EPS tells us costs or other factors amplified that revenue weakness on the way down to the bottom line.

We do not have guidance commentary from management to work with here, so we cannot say whether the company expects conditions to stabilize or worsen. The forward P/E of 9.7 versus a trailing P/E of 11.8 implies analysts are modeling a rebound in earnings, but that assumption has not been tested against any fresh guidance.

The ACCE score of 42 reflects the broader picture: a company under financial pressure, trading at a low multiple, with a high dividend yield that may attract income-focused buyers but also signals the market's caution about the stock's near-term prospects.
